I grew up poor on a farm in Saskatchewan, and I remember we had to drive five miles just to get drinking water from a safe well. Neither of my parents finished high school, and I watched them be intimidated their whole lives by anyone who acted smart or authoritative. At a young age, I realized it was going to take some courage to escape this existence.
So I read many books, played music, got into Yale, and began living the American Dream, including a stint at "Saturday Night Live," publishing two books featured in the New York Times, and visiting 100+ countries. But I always remember to advocate for less-educated, non-technical people like my parents. I teach tech with warmth, empathy and humor on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/tech-and-travel-6580947208521289728/

I am a venture capital and technology attorney who advises startups and their angel and venture fund investors, as well as helping more established tech companies negotiate complex agreements. After many years practicing in-house and actually dealing with all the day-to-day issues of start-ups and technology companies, I have returned to law firm practice. However, I continue to view the delivery of legal services through the eyes of a client. As a client, I wanted lawyers who could translate their expertise into practical business advice and proactive, creative problem solving. I wanted lawyers whose billing practices matched the value they delivered and the cost estimates they provided. Now as a part of a law firm, that is how I deliver legal services.
I have previously served as the General Counsel of a video conferencing startup, Vidyo, Inc., and a venture capital firm that focused on corporate spinouts, New Venture Partners. In addition, I was the counsel to the CIO at Lucent Technologies. As a result of this background, my practice has two distinct parts – corporate and IT/IP transactional.
I have recently joined the Rimon, P.C. law firm. Rimon has developed a unique business model that has eliminated much of the overhead of larger firms. The firm has proven that high quality and reasonable rates do not have to be a contradiction in terms. The majority of Rimon’s attorneys work remotely, but with over 50 attorneys Rimon has the subject matter experts of larger firms such as tax, employment, litigation and IP. Rimon’s economic model also gives attorneys great flexibility to structure alternative fee arrangements with our clients. The innovate nature of Rimon was recently recognized by the Financial Times, which has named Rimon one of North America’s leading innovative law firms several times.
Dentist and business owner who has been featured in the #1 NY Times Bestseller book by Gary Vaynerchuk, “Crushing It” for her innovative use of social media to bring patients to her dental practice.
Her innovative approach to using social media and specifically video to tell stories about the various procedures, are what attracts even the youngest child to want to meet this dynamic lady. Although she provides all the mainstream dental services- cosmetic dentistry is her passion.
She attracts some very high profile clientele to her practice with her innovative approach to dentistry but also from creating sports focused professional mouthguards. Her selection of “Roar Mouthguards” are very popular as they are produced with custom designs provided by the client, making for very individual pieces.
Doing Things Differently
What makes Chithra different from others in her field is that going to her practice is an experience to be enjoyed, not dreaded. Her practice is 100% digital, she offers warm peppermint scented towels, neck pillows, hot beverages and her patients even could watch Netflix during treatment. She prides herself on the customer service experience.
This sets her apart from her peers and also provides an example of what is possible when you do things differently. Chithra Durgam is also determined to help other healthcare professionals and business owners succeed by breaking the “cookie cutter” social media and customer service offerings for businesses. This she does by speaking at conferences and businesses about social media.
